This is the third auction of the 2017-18 season, and the NHL’s ecommerce business, Hockey Central, is a part of the auction.
The league is seeking bids for three new NHL arenas, including the NHL Centre in New York, which is scheduled to open in 2021.
The NHL said the auction is the first of its kind in its history, and it’s expected to attract more than $5 million in bids.
“It is a testament to the NHL and its commitment to the health and safety of its fans and partners, and to the power of our brand, to the impact we can have in our communities, to bring the world more of the fun, excitement and fun for the entire family,” commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement.
The auction includes the NHL Center, which will be completed in 2021, and an arena in St. Louis that was built for the 2018 World Cup of Hockey.
Bettman also announced plans to expand the league’s charitable programs and expand the NHL Network to provide hockey coverage across North America.
The bidding for the new NHL Centre starts Monday and runs through Oct. 4.
The New York bid will close at 9:59 a.m. on Thursday.
