It will be ready in three to four months, said Paul O’Malley, vice-president of Ecommerce at eCommerce Canada.
“It’s a lot faster than the time frame that we were talking about before,” O’Neill said.
Ecommerce Canada is also looking at other ways to help people manage their purchases online.
The organization is also working with local retailers to help them build online stores and help people find products and services.
O’Brien said the federal government is also exploring ways to allow online shopping for seniors.
“If you are going to be in the middle of retirement, or if you are an elderly person in need of help with a purchase, that could be one of the things we can help you with,” he said.
OBrien said it will be up to the federal, provincial and territorial governments to decide how to spend the money from the new tax.
He said the tax will be revenue neutral.
“We don’t have to balance the books,” he added.
“This will be a revenue neutral tax.”
